Cast of Syfy’s ‘Being Human’ visits NYC

The cast of Syfy’s Being Human attended a panel event on Wednesday night at the Paley Center in New York City. Audience members watched a preview screening of Monday night’s episode followed by a discussion with the stars of the show, Sam Witwer (vampire Aidan), Sam Huntington (werewolf Josh), Meaghan Rath (ghost Sally), and Sarah Allen (vampire Rebecca) who brought with them an exuberant energy and a lively sense of humor.

Syfy’s re-imaging of the British show Being Human is more of a “commentary on trying to find yourself in your 20’s” than a vampire show, according to Mark Stern, President of Original Content on Syfy. He adds that the “original concept was roommates in their twenties and the supernatural element was an afterthought.”

When someone hears “A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost…”, they may be quick to assume it’s a joke. However, Stern assures us that it’s “not a one joke premise.” Being Human delves into the lives of three roommates who long to have a human experience in their supernatural existence.

While two of the three main characters may be among the undead, it took a cast of very charismatic actors to bring them to life. Stern describes the actors as having an “an electric chemistry.” That chemistry was also obvious to the fans at the Paley Center, as the cast members were both energetic and jovial before the interview was even underway.

According to Stern, “there was almost too much chemistry.” Witwer added that they were “told to turn down the chemistry because the characters had just met [on the show].”

The audience was captivated by the panel discussion as the cast excitedly joked with one another. Huntington commented that he spent the entire trip to NYC wondering whether or not a “a werewolf [can turn] into a ghost if a vampire bites him?” While he debated his werewolf conundrum, Rath enthusiastically shared her thoughts on the supernatural aspect of Being Human. “As a kid I would look at a glass of water and want to move it, then to be here now and have it all rigged up. It’s exciting.”

When asked what their craziest moment since the show started was, Witwer was happy to boast about his unique celebrity experience. While at an Italian restaurant, “Alice Cooper taps me on the shoulder and tells me he loves the show,” said Witwer. “He went on in some detail comparing the British version to the U.S. version.” In the retelling of his experience, you could see how awe struck Witwer was by his encounter. Cooper isn’t alone in his love of the show though, according to a recent Syfy press release, Being Human has “averaged 1.8 million viewers making it Syfy’s most successful winter season scripted series launch in 6 years.”

The theme of tonight’s episode of Being Human, “Going Dutch”, is change & evolution in which Aidan, Josh, and Sally’s biggest fears come to light. Aidan is forced to take sides between his family and the original vampires. In doing so, he must take on life and death responsibilities. Josh’s journey to being human brings him face to face with one of the most challenging human experiences yet, a life growing inside of his girlfriend, Nora. Meanwhile, Sally is at the center of an exorcism which could mean the end of her supernatural existence. Someone will die, but you’ll have to watch the show tonight to find out who.

This episode of Being Human is heavily packed with one-two punches. If you were still debating on whether or not to invest time in this hit new supernatural series, it was announced earlier this month by Stern that a second season has already been ordered.

Being Human airs Monday night at 9 p.m. on Syfy.

Happy 4th of July Weekend: ‘Twilight’ Cast Member Appearances

Happy 4th of July Weekend! If you didn’t have plans already, you’re in luck. According to The Twilight Saga’s fan page, cast members will be watching ‘Twilight Eclipse‘ in 14 cities across America, including Toronto. The times, dates, and theaters vary, so check closely in case you’re thinking about booking a double showing in 2 cities, since some locations are close together.

Which theaters will Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner be stopping by? While I don’t have any information on who is going to which theater, or if the main cast members are even involved in this ‘Twilight’ viewing, I’m almost definite that it would be in NYC. Continue reading below for further explanation.

Maybe you had fireworks in mind? If so, you’re also covered for a Twilight fan experience there too!

In celebration of the United States independence day, NBC will host a special for the 11th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. Cast members from ‘The ‘Twilight Sage: Eclipse’ are booked for the festivities that will take place onboard the Norwegian cruise ship “Epic“. According to TicTak of 92.3 NOW, there will be a wolf and a vampire at the event, no mention of a female human though. It’s hard to believe it will be anyone other than Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, especially since Lautner is currently filming ‘Abduction‘ in the Pittsburgh/NYC area.

The event will be hosted by Nick Cannon (92.3 NOW) and Alison Sweeney (The Biggest Loser). There will also be live performances by Justin Bieber, Enrique Iglesias, and LeAnn Rime.

The Norwegian Epic arrived at Manhattan Cruise Terminal’s Pier 88 on Manhattan’s West Side on Thursday, July 1, 2010. According to WCBS, “It claims to be the largest ship ever to dock in New York.”

However, it’s safe to say that security will be extremely high during this massive holiday event, so maybe catching cast members in theater will be your best option.

The Future of ‘Sex and the City’

The ‘Sex and the City’ Franchise may be coming to an end after 12 long seasons and two blockbuster movies.

While opening weekend was all glitz and glam followed by fan frenzy on the red carpet, it appears that box office sales failed to translate. SATC2, which ranked third opening weekend, pulled in $20 million less than the original which made $57 mil. If a bigger budget to smaller profit ratio wasn’t bad enough, the reviews ultimately sealed the fate for a SATC trilogy.

It appears that the women of Sex and the City will be hanging up their Manolos indefinitely. Although Sarah Jessica Parker had hopes that Carrie would live on, telling UsMagazine at the Tokyo premiere that “[Carrie] will live on, even if the movies don’t.”

Below are pictures from the NYC premiere of ‘Sex and the City 2’ as well as a guide to what the future holds for the cast members.

‘Sex and the City’ may be over, but you can still catch your favorite cast members working on other projects.

Kim Cattrall will begin filming ‘Sweet Baby Jesus (2011)‘, “a quirky Christmas comedy”, at the end of July or beginning of August.

‘Sweet Baby Jesus‘ is about a pregnant girl named Mary (singer Pixie Lott) who returns to her home of Bethlehem, Maryland during Christmas time to be with her mother (Bette Middler). Her older boyfriend Joe (Sam Rockwell) is not the father of the child. Soon rumors begin to spread that that the birth is Jesus second coming.

Kim Cattrall is set to play the role of a local B&B owner whose gossiping leads tot he rumor that Mary’s pregnancy is the mark of a second coming.

Although the movie is supposed to take place in Maryland, the movie is financed by a European production company and therefore doing a majority of the filming in Ireland. According to an IFTN.ie article, the crew began scouting locations in late May and will begin filming sometime in late July or early August with a short shoot also taking place in Maryland. Don’t expect to hear any Irish accents though, “because by and large Irish people can do very good American accents.”

Sarah Jessica Parker is rumored to star in ‘The Ivy Chronicles (2013)’:

A New York mom starts a new life for herself and two girls after she loses her husband, her apartment and her job on Wall Street. Based on a book by Karen Quinn.

Parker is also rumored to appear in the movie ‘A Family Affair (2011)’, where she “would play a real estate agent who has a one-night stand with a distinguished older man. After becoming engaged to someone else and heading off to meet her fiancé’s family, she discovers her future father-in-law was her bedmate.” – IMDB

She also has two movies listed in development: ‘The Late Bloomer’s Revolution (2011)’ and ‘Love Walked In (2011)‘.

Cynthia Nixon recently filmed four episodes of the new USA series ‘The Big C‘ in Stamford, Connecticut. ‘The Big C’, starring Laura Linney as a teacher who becomes diagnosed with terminal cancer, officially debuts on August 16th.

Kristin Davis does not currently have anything listed.

Chris Noth has a reoccurring role in the legal drama, ‘The Good Wife‘, which films in NYC. The CBS show is about to begin filming its 2nd season sometime in July.

He also has a leading role coming up in the movie, ‘Sure Fire Hit (2010)‘ which is slated to begin filming in September.

Kam is in her thirties and ready for her well earned if somewhat early retirement. Before leaving, she is asked to train her replacement who appears to have an agenda of her own.

According to IMDB, the film was originally written to take place in Los Angeles. “Director Darren S. Cook decided to shift the location to Cambridge, England, as it had not been used as a full location for a feature, and fit perfectly to the scripts needs.” The film is currently listed under “pre-production”.

John Corbett stars in the upcoming movie ‘Ramona and Beezus (2010)’ from Beverly Cleary’s popular children’s book series. The cast includes Selena Gomez, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bridget Moynahan, Sandra Oh, and Josh Duhamel. ‘Ramond Beezus‘ is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 23, 2010 by 20th Century Fox.

Corbett continues to star as Max Gregson in the Showtime series, ‘United States of Tara‘. While season 2 just finished, season 3 will pick up in March 2011. ‘United States of Tara‘ films in Studio City, LA.

His next movie, which is currently in development, is called ‘Wild Oats (2011)’.

The movie focuses on a widow who finds herself heading to Las Vegas with her granddaughter after a pile of money falls in her lap. The cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Walken, Christina Ricci, Maria Bello, and Bill Pullman.

‘Wild Oats’ is scheduled to begin filming in Connecticut and Nevada in August.

Willie Garson continues to star in the second season of ‘White Collar’ as Mozzie. NYC filming locations for ‘White Collar‘ are regularly found under OLV’s ‘Daily Filming Locations’. You can also look for him in his latest films ‘Monster Heroes (2010)‘ and ‘Ashley’s Ashes (2010)‘.

Evan Handler continues starring in HBO’s ‘Californication’ as Charlie Runkle, where he films with costar David Duchovony in Los Angeles.

Mario Cantone has two movies coming out. ‘Dirty Movie (2010)’, which is both directed by and stars Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni, was filmed in Cornwall Bridge, New Preston, and Warren Connecticut as well as NYC. The movie also stars Cyndi Laupher and Diane Neal. No release date listed. ‘Circus Maximus (2010)’, which was filmed in Brooklyn, NY, is set to be released December 1, 2010.

Jason Lewis will star in two upcoming movies. ‘The Pardon (2010)’, which was filmed in Shreveport, Louisiana, also stars Jamie King and T.J. Thyne (Bones). ‘Textuality (2010)’, which was filmed in Toronto, Canada, also stars Eric McCormack and Carly Pope. Neither film currently has a release date.

David Eigenberg also has two movies coming out. ‘Robosapien: Rebooted (2010)’, which was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana and ‘See You in September (2010)’, which was filmed in NYC. Both movies are currently awaiting release.

A Weekend in NYC with Prince Harry

If you haven’t had the opportunity to travel to the UK, you’re in luck because the UK is traveling to you! The Prince of Wales will arrive in New York City today for a 3-day visit.

According to PrinceofWales.gov.uk, his visit will include stops at a number of military and veterans organizations. His first official function is on Friday, June 25th, where he will “observe field exercises and meet with cadets at The United States Military Academy at West Point.” The prince will also attend a reception at the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum in support of British and American veterans.

Click below to find out Prince Harry’s schedule on Saturday and Sunday.On Saturday, June 26, as patron of the charity Map Action, the prince will tour the UNICEF Emergency Operation Center in order to gain deeper understanding of emergency humanitarian response, including how to use geospatial mapping to effectively coordinate relief and rescue efforts after a disaster.

In the afternoon, the prince will throw the first pitch at the New York Mets vs Minnesota Twins baseball game at Citi Field. Prince Harry will be joined by British and American veterans who have served in the Iraq and Afghanistan. The game will begin at 1:10pm.

On Sunday, June 27th, the prince will begin his day at Central Park, where he will join US veterans for The Hope & Possibility 5-mile run. The veterans are members of The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, which trains and sponsors recently wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to participate in races and marathons worldwide. Cindy and Meghan McCain along with other celebrity guests will also be in attendance.

He will then take part in the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Governors Island at 12pm. The event will raise money for the American Friends of Sentebale, which is the US branch of the charity he co-founded to aid children in Lesotho. During his visit in 2009, he played a match against Nacho Figueras to raise money for a worthy cause where over 6,000 New Yorkers, celebrities, and royals were in attendance.

According to the Veuve Clicquot website, “New Yorkers are welcome to come out and enjoy the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at no cost! The west side of the playing field will feature bleachers for viewing of the match.”

‘True Blood’ LA Premiere Today

Season 3 of ‘True Blood‘ is going to premiere in a major way. While many fans will be forced to wait until the June 13th TV air date, residents in the Los Angeles area can be a part of the red carpet premiere on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Arclight Cinerama Dome, 6360 Sunset Blvd, in Hollywood.

While the red carpet guest list is still unknown, red carpet arrivals are expected between 5 pm and 6:30 pm. ‘True Blood’, which stars real life couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, regularly films in Los Angeles so the guest list should be well worth the visit.

Season 2 of True Blood left off with the conclusion of Maryann’s storyline and her hold on the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. After Sam Merlotte saves the day, he begins to wonder about his roots and seeks out his shape-shifting family with great disdain from his estranged adoptive family.

Tara’s boyfriend Eggs, who was introduced during the Maryann storyline, insists Sookie help him uncover the truth about his actions under Maryann’s spell. Distraught over revelations of his murdering rampages, he holds Andy Bellefleur at knife-point pleading to be arrested despite the fact that it was Maryann at work. Jason, Tara’s other love interest, unaware of the situation sees the hold up and shoots Eggs dead.

As for the vampires and their fangbangers, Jessica and Hoyt get into a fight and before things can be made right, young Jessica runs off to feed on an unsuspecting truck driver. Bill takes Sookie to a French restaurant and proposes to her. Sookie, overrun with emotions, excuses herself to the bathroom to compose herself. Deciding to say yes, she walks out to find that Bill is gone and the restaurant is in disarray.

2010 is quickly becoming the year of CW weddings!

Jensen Ackles has followed in the footsteps of Supernatural costars Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Cortese, who were married earlier this year on February 27th. [Photos Updated]

Ackles married his long time girlfriend and CW costar Danneel Harris (One Tree Hill) on Saturday, May 15th. The wedding ceremony took place in Ackle’s hometown of Dallas, Texas at the Crescent Hotel.

The bride’s brother, Gino Graul, tweeted the next day:

“It’s official! Mr. and Mrs. Jensen Ackles!!!! The wedding was phenomenal as was the ceremony and the reception! I’m soo happy 4 them both!”

Is Danneel the girl Jensen’s been dreaming about all these years? In 2006, Ackles described his dream girl in an interview with People magazine as “someone who can laugh at your jokes. It may sound cheesy, but someone who can be your best friend as well as your love.” Ackles and Harris have reportedly been friends for over a decade. In 2007, they costarred in the romantic comedy, Ten Inch Hero. Real life picked up where the movie left off and the couple have been together ever since.

In November 2009, Ackles proposed to his 3-year girlfriend. Harris confirmed the news of the engagement with an excited Twitter post in which she simply said “Yes… !” The newly engaged couple was spotted for the first time at the Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Santa Anita Park in LA.

Since the wedding on May 15th, the couple took their honeymoon to NYC where they arrived at their uptown hotel on Sunday afternoon, May 16th. Then it was back to work for Harris-Ackles as she attended the New York press tour for her new NBC show, ‘Friends With Benefits’.

Event entrance at Hudson River at 42nd Street and the West Side Highway

Arrive no later than 7 a.m.; Event begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m.

The LYBL walk takes place on the final day of the weekend-long celebration which will be lead by Oprah, along side of the top 10 fundraisers, who will also have their name featured in an upcoming issue of O, The Oprah Magazine!

The 10 charities that were selected to benefit from the LYBL walk include A Better Chance in education, Best Friends animal society for animal welfare, Kids of Service Members helping military children through Camp C.O.P.E., empowerment of women through Mary J. Blige’s FFAWN, health education and mentoring movement founded by Dr. Oz called Health Corps, greening NYC with Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Process (NYPR), campaign to save the oceans with Oceana, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Stand with Haiti through Partners in Health (PIH), and No Kids Hungry through Share Our Strength.

The 2-mile Walk will begin on the scenic Hudson River at 42nd Street and the West Side Highway. Suggested arrival time is no later than 7 a.m. The Walk will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. on 49th st in Times Square where there will be a celebration for all participants at the finish line to close the weekend’s festivities with speakers, music, and food. The Oprah Store will be there too.

Participants are encouraged to pick up their t-shirts in advance at one of the three Crunch Gym locations. Registration Tents are located in the Intrepid Museum Parking Lot between 45th Street and 46th Street on the East side of the West Side Highway. Those who already picked up their t-shirt should arrive at 42nd Street and the West Side Highway, where they will be directed by event staff to the Start lineup. All participants will go through a security screening, upon arrival. Therefore, we highly encourage you to leave bags and personal belongings behind.

The Walk Registration Fee is $30 + $2 tax and service fees per ticket. (This price is included if you register for the whole weekend.)

Among the celebrities that will be in attendance at the LYBL walk for their charities are Best Friend’s Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight), Lisa Edelstein (House M.D.), Maggie Q (upcoming TV series Nikita), and singer Neko Case; FFAWN’s founder/singer Mary J. Blige; Health Corp’s cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Oz; NYRP Founder Bette Midler and her daughter Sophie; OCEANA’s Sam Waterston (Law & Order); PIH’s Chief Medical Officer Joia Mukherjee, Share Our Strength’s celebrity Food Network Chef’s Aaron McCargo, Jr. (Big Daddy’s House) and Mindy Segal; singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman, country musician Emmylou Harris, and many more!

Adam Brody on the set of ‘The Oranges’, Greets fans by Scooter

Since ‘House M.D.’ films in L.A., I made sure I didn’t miss one of my last opportunities to meet Hugh Laurie on the set of his current movie ‘The Oranges‘ in New Rochelle, NY. The cast also includes Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Adam Brody (The O.C.) which made the set visit even more worthwhile.

After close to an hour and a half drive on Wednesday, April 21st, I found myself in the beautiful town of New Rochelle, which offers the scenery for the movie, ‘The Oranges‘. However, the storyline actually takes place in New Jersey, which would have been a shorter drive had they filmed there.

The filming location was at a local residence and like most filming locations at private homes, the crew made sure that fans were standing practically around the corner. All of the scenes being filmed on this particular day took place inside the house, so there wasn’t much to see to begin with. Occasionally the actors would come out to take a cigarette break, talk on the phone, or just relax since it was a bright sunny day.

When I asked one of the crew members about Hugh Laurie, I was told that earlier in the day they had paparazzi all over the place which made the actors nervous. I later found out that this was a fabrication, making me wonder if the next thing I heard was true. Apparently Hugh Laurie has a stalker. According to a member of the crew, “he received gifts at the house they were filming at a week before they started filming.”

Now I don’t know if this was the reason that earlier in the week he told a fan who asked for an autograph, “I can’t. I’m working.” Either way, this serves as an important note to all fans, avoid sending gifts to obscure locations and just wait to give the gift to them in person. It’s safe to say it would be more meaningful that way, to both the celebrity and the fan.

So as you can tell, all I saw was the back of Hugh Laurie‘s head once or twice from a distance. The same went for Leighton Meester and Catherine Keener (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief). Much of the time I spent waiting with two fans, Julia and Anna (with two N’s), who said they met Catherine Keener on another occasion and she was extremely friendly.

Although it seemed like this set visit was going to end with me walking away empty handed, Adam Brody saved the day. He came out of the driveway on a scooter and down the block to greet fans. It only took 5 minutes, but fans including myself, were able to get autographs and pictures with him.

When he was signing an autograph for me, he asked for my name. By the time he got to the second L in Melissa, he said “sorry, I know I’m spelling your name wrong.” While he got Julia’s name right, he also misspelled Anna’s name, using one N instead of two. We didn’t mind though, we were just happy to be getting an autograph and a cute story to tell.

OLV Member Alexandra was also on the set that day, although our paths didn’t cross in the group of 15 people spread out on the “fan” corner.

Alexandra came from the neighboring town of Scarsdale hoping to meet Leighton Meester and Adam Brody. During her time at the set she was able to see Allison Janney, Hugh Laurie, and Adam Brody.

“I was talking with the PAs when Adam rode his scooter over to meet me to say ‘Hi‘,” said Alexandra. “All I was thinking was Oh My God! It’s Adam Brody!”

While this wasn’t her first time on a movie set, she says “this is by far my favorite experience because there was a lot of interaction with the fans, especially Adam. It felt like a one in the million chance.” He even came back on his scooter a short while later and stopped by to say hi to his fans again and sign autographs for those he missed the first time around.

Right before I left the set, I heard that the actors were going to be filming a major scene. One can only wonder what that scene might be! ‘The Oranges‘, which is a movie about a man (Hugh Laurie) who has an affair with the daughter of a family friend (Leighton Meester) that creates a whole slew of drama between the neighbors.

Catching up with the stars of ‘Son of No One’

‘Son of No One‘ was filming in the Bronx on Wednesday, April 14th when OLV Member StarMom36 stopped by the set where she met Ray Liotta and Channing Tatum.

She headed out to the Bronx set at 11 a.m. “It was such a nice day,” StarMom36 said. “Next thing you know we’re talking and talking and Ray Liotta is coming out.”

“I was so star struck, I couldn’t even move,” she said. “He looked at us, we looked at him, then I said “Hello, Ray may I have a picture with you?” His response was “sure!“” She added “I wasn’t going to go if I didn’t get to see Ray Liotta.”

When he came out of the trailer she said, “Ray I know you’re working and very busy, but can you please sign my favorite dvd, ‘Goodfellas‘. He then turned around and said “sure, it has to be quick now.” When he was signing the DVD, StarMom36 realized “he was left handed just like me.” She was ecstatic.

Luckily for her, she was able to meet two stars from the cast, Ray Liotta and Channing Tatum, who appeared at around 1 p.m. “They were walking around freely with no bodyguards and no one was jumping or running at them,” she said.

Since he was wearing a police uniform, StarMom36 said “I’ve been a bad girl, would you like to arrest me now or later?” He instantly blushes and responds “no comment,” then he laughs and says “there’s no good way I could answer that.” He then introduced himself to the rest of the 8 girls that were there that day. “We all got pictures and autographs,” she said.

“I must say this is one of the best movie sets I’ve ever been too!,” she said. “I wish there were more celebs like Ray Liotta and Channing Tatum who are not scared to get close to their fans.”
